The problem

Your console breathes the same air your room does.

Gaming consoles move air to control temperature. That air can carry dust, lint, hair, fibers and other airborne particulate. Over time, accumulation around fans, vents and heat-management components can interfere with airflow and contribute to thermal-management problems.

    Place the console on the base plate. Retention features help hold it in a stable position.

    Enclose

    The top plate and standoff tubes establish protective spacing around the console.

    The breathable shroud spans the enclosure perimeter to help inhibit airborne particulate.

Designed to become a real product.

Dust Shield LLC is moving from working prototypes toward a manufacturable consumer product. Current direction includes injection-molded rigid components, production tooling, a breathable textile shroud, continued prototype refinement, supplier evaluation and manufacturability work.

Our story

This started in a house full of gamers.

Dust Shield wasn't dreamed up as another accessory to put on a shelf. Geoffrey and Janet Williams spent years raising four boys in a home where gaming systems were always running.

Dust, heat and console maintenance were recurring problems. Friends, family and neighborhood parents ran into the same frustration — and their house became the place people brought consoles that had stopped behaving.

About seven years ago, that frustration led to the first homemade Dust Shield. More were made for friends and family, and they kept working.

Now Dust Shield LLC is working to turn that original idea into a professionally manufactured product.

  • What is Dust Shield?

    A protective gaming-console enclosure designed around airflow and particulate control. A rigid base and top plate are separated by standoffs, with a breathable filtering shroud around the perimeter.

  • Can it stay around the console while I play?

    Yes — that's the point of the design. Dust Shield is specifically being designed for protection during operation, standby and downtime, rather than only when the console is off.

  • How does air get through?

    A breathable filtering member surrounds the enclosure, and the spacing created by the standoffs provides an internal air volume around the console rather than wrapping against its vents.

  • What does it help protect against?

    Primarily dust, lint, fibers, hair and other airborne particulate. It also adds another physical layer between your console and everyday household activity.

  • Is it waterproof?

    No. Dust Shield makes no waterproof or water-resistance claim. It is being developed as a particulate-management and physical protective enclosure.

  • What consoles will it support?

    Current-generation home gaming consoles — final compatibility list to be confirmed. Initial development focus is on current-generation home gaming consoles; specific compatibility will be published once the product team confirms it.

  • When will it ship?

    To be announced with the Kickstarter campaign.

  • What will it cost?

    Final Kickstarter pricing will be announced before launch.

  • Is it patented?

    Intellectual property protection in progress. Dust Shield is built around a proprietary enclosure design.

  • Can I clean or replace the shroud?

    Final care and replacement instructions will be published with the production product.
